Demonstrates lack of field outside of solenoid.
Equipment:
1. Lambda power supply
2. F.W. Bell gaussmeter set (black case) Model #5070 w/ probe & zero chamber
3. 2 B-A leads
4. Solenoid
Procedure:
1. Connect as shown.
2. Turn on the gaussmeter power. Turn the knob to the zero setting. Insert the probe end into the zero chamber and push 'hold reset.' Turn the knob back to 'measure.'
3. Adjust the current so that the power supply reads about 1.8 amps.
4. Observe the gaussmeter as the probe is moved over the ends of the solenoid, then over the middle.
5. Now observe the field strength inside the solenoid by slipping the probe end into the slot at the middle of the solenoid.
