Demonstrates loss of magnetic property with an increase in temperature.
Equipment:
1. Canadian coins (in small beaker) 2. Magnet 3. Propane torch 4. Small bottle of water
Procedure:
1. Since Canadian coins are attracted to a magnet, hang the coins in series from the magnet. 2. Heat the lower coin until it falls off into the beaker of water, then heat the next one (careful, the magnet will weaken with heat). 3. Dip the magnet into the water and retrieve the coins, showing that in cooling down they have regained their ferromagnetic properties.
DON'T HEAT THE COINS AND LET THE HOT COINS FALL DIRECTLY ONTO THE MAT ON TOP OF THE CART.
